Hey there, time traveller! Well, to be fair, Manitoba's never had an official best sommelier before, so Sean Dolenuck is both the new champ and the first one. The day-long competition included a written test, a written blind tasting, a service exam including serving and decanting older bottles of wine to fake restaurant customers, this writer included and then a standup, verbal blind-tasting exam of two wines and a spirit in front of judges.
Dolenuck will head to Toronto in March to take part in the national competition. On Thursday, Feb. The Grant Park Liquor Mart will host Dan Volway as he takes those in attendance on a trip through some of Scotland's main whisky-producing regions. Each event runs from p. There are still tickets available for the main tasting as well, which starts at p. In addition to tasting some bloody fine whisky — which isn't cheap, hence the ticket price — there's plenty of bourbon, cognac, rum and brandy. On top of the sippables, there's a buffet-type menu featuring oysters, cheeses, and a poutine station among other tasty treats.
lambiase.net/images/fantasy/zox-day-trading-commodity.php Beer lovers will want to circle June 4 and 5 on their calendars. And yes, those dates are firm even if the Jets are still in the NHL playoffs. Details on available beers, ticket prices and any potential ancillary events have yet to be announced.

This Okanagan Falls-area winery has a reputation for killer bubbly, and this wine is no exception. Mineral, pear, bread dough, fresh floral and bruised apple notes on the nose are complex; on the palate those notes carry though, with a slight honey note that balances the racy effervescence and crisp acidity nicely. It has great finesse — the Blue Mountain could easily be mistaken for non-vintage French Champagne in a blind tasting.
This crisp Sicilian white wine, made from the Catarrato grape, brings a slightly muted nose dominated by honey notes but with secondary floral, pear and chalky notes. It's a light-plus bodied, fairly crisp white — low in acidity but with pretty pear and honey flavours that are pleasant enough. Medium-plus bodied and dry, with plenty of ripe blueberry, blackberry and peppery black-tea notes on the dry, somewhat tannic finish.
Try with grilled ribeye.
